When life appears to be confusing and chaotic it is good to retreat to a safe space, a secret place to get grounded, reflect and release the physical and emotional stress that can take a toll on a woman’s sense of well-being. Women are essential at home and in the workplace which is why this retreat is apart of the Optimal Living Education & Retreats LLC pre-launch. We want to fortify women during our Nation’s pandemic to be the sheros they were created to be during turbulent times for themselves and for their families.
“A healthy woman brings peace and prosperity to her home and her workplace.” Versandra Kennebrew
In June of 2016, I began my Toastmasters journey. It took me nearly 20 years to take on this prestigious self-paced leadership education program because I made excuses as to why it was not “right for me.”
When I tested the waters in the spring of 2016 at a Toastmasters Speechcraft, I noticed how attending a bi-weekly 1-hr meeting held me accountable to my commitment to my own growth and development. Unlike going to college and piling up thousands of dollars in debt, I instead invested about $100 and 36 hrs a year to build my self-confidence, learn essential leadership skills, and grow my professional network.
I have finally come to a point in my life where I can celebrate myself and my accomplishments and not care what anyone else thinks. I give myself permission to shine even when others are uncomfortable with it.
Disruption 2020 will address strengthening our collective efforts in order to assist homeless and low-income individuals and continue creating change for people. We hope to build partnerships, share resources, and develop synergy as a community to address the crisis of homelessness and poverty. More…
As the keynote speaker during Friday’s Opening Dinner, I will share my story of overcoming homelessness as well as resources for others affected by the epidemic of homelessness and poverty in America. On Saturday, I will join a dynamic group of community leaders and others who work for social justice in a panel discussion. Students and guests will have the opportunity to attend workshops, engage in community service and more throughout the weekend.
The summit takes place March 20-22, 2020 at Spelman College in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Ed.D. Academic Center Auditorium and is hosted by Spelman College’s Bonner Office of Civic Engagement and Social Justice Fellows Program.
Versandra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. As a young overworked African American woman raising two children working 50-60 hours a week, climbing the corporate ladder, my health became compromised. While recovering from what doctors considered minor surgery I began to consider my purpose in life. I no longer wanted to work every day, all day just to survive. I wanted to live my life on purpose and I wanted to see the world.
As I put into action my plan to transition into my new career and life’s purpose as a healing artist, my dad was diagnosed with cancer. I relocated from the Washington D.C. area back home to Detroit to care for him. Still discovering my life’s path, I studied massage therapy and a variety of holistic health modalities from around the world. Providing on-site corporate massage at Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ford Motor Company World Headquarters, and the City of Detroit while serving celebrity clients like Les Brown, Tommy Davidson, Kirk Whalum, and Dee Dee Bridgewater to name a few, I became well-known in my hometown as a healing artist. My social media activity opened up opportunities for me to speak and teach across the U.S. and Canada. Amidst living my passion, I was also balancing serving my community as I owned a holistic wellness center.
You’ve been wanting to connect with other writers, poets, and speakers, expanding your network and your resources. That time has come!
When I was planning to write my memoir in 2008, I didn’t know where to start. Of course, I Googled self-publishing and joined a few webinars and learned a lot, but first-hand insight is what I wanted and needed. I found a writer’s network and joined a mastermind group. 6-books later, I am a successful author and international speaker. I am transforming lives world-wide.
Once upon a time, Big Business had a serious edge over Small Business because their marketing budgets were enormous. Corporations could drop their ads and messaging into their customer’s mailboxes, email inboxes, radio, television, and company events spending hundreds of thousands of dollars a pop and Small Businesses found it difficult to compete.
Today, social media helps level the playground for Small Business owners yet too many entrepreneurs have not learned the basics of Social Media for Business. They are caught up with using this FREE marketing tool like a consumer or they believe it should be used simply to post ads.

It’s always a pleasure to mentor new coaches and a couple of weeks ago, I had the honor of being interviewed by Brandon from Life Coach Path in association with National Coach Academy. We chatted about how I got started as a coach and what my practice is all about.
The main objective at the National Coach Academy is to enable aspiring coaches to reach their full professional potential. One of the most effective ways to educate students about the world of coaching is by offering them a window into the world of real, practicing coaches and showing them all the different ways coaches make a difference in the lives of their clients.
