“Get a good job, find a career you can depend on, become independent” are some of the phrases that high school students who are becoming closer to college age hear often. When I speak to these same students at their perspective colleges, I implore them to seek out paid internships in the industry that will allow them to better define their purpose. I suggest our eager and open-minded students explore each aspect of the industry they want to work in and find out what speaks to their personality and lifestyle. Most importantly, I suggest each student becomes an entrepreneur on some level, right away, while they complete their studies and explore their career path. Why? Because there is no career they can depend on anymore. If we want our young adults to succeed in life, it is my belief that they must each possess essential entrepreneurial skills that will serve them the rest of their lives.
